I have always thought that
guide dogs are a wonderful help for the visually impaired and blind so when I was reached out by, Danny Bohbot,

She was just accepted to the Pilot

She will go this summer, 2012 to this school to do the training that is required and get her guide dog.

Pilot Dogs is a Non-profit organization that helps providing guide dogs for the visually impaired and blind that needs them so much.

Guide dogs are certainly a best low vision/blind person friend!

Pilot Dogs is non-profit meaning that any visually impaired or blind person in the US can go there and the plane ticket and the stay and the guide dog all are for free!!!

RP researcher from Johns Hopkins shares his views

As you all know I have Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) and many of my LVB Show listeners do too so when the opportunity came to do a LVB Show interview with Dr Gislin Dagnelie, one of the leading RP researchers in the world, I went for it!

Dr Gislin Dagnelie is
since 2001 an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, one of the most important medical institutions in the whole planet.

Also since 1998, Dr Gislin Dagnelie has been the Director of Low Vision Education, JHU Dept of Ophthalmology Lions Vision Research and Rehabilitation Ctr.

Here you can listen to the full LVB Show interview:
http://lowvisionbureau.podomatic.com/entry/2012-04-14T15_42_44-07_00

Dr Dagnelie has a very impressive resume and a lifetime of dedication towards research to better understand the retina, retinitis pigmentosa and how people with RP lose their vision among other things.

Dr Gislin Dagnelie also works on finding ways to measuring the total eye sight of any individual that has low vision, he believes in order for a future treatment to work in any patient, there has to be a way to know as exactly as possible how much does the patient sees before trying a treatment to see what the real change in his/her vision has happened because as long as the person has any amount of sight left, whether they can still do a visual field or read any of the eye chart letters or not, you can find out the amount of sight that this person still has and then compare it with after the treatment has taken place.

Dr Dagnelie has develope self tests that people can take from their own personal computers and they can measure their eyesight changes and if you want more information about this, please send me an email to lowvisionbureau@gmail.com and I will forward your emails to Dr Dagnelie.

During this interview also Dr Gislin Dagnelie discusses nutrition for the eyes, including vitamin A Palmitate, multivitamins, Lutein, DHA and much more…

One of the most important things he does is the research with the retinal implants.

Dr Gislin Dagnelie has been an Investigator for clinical trials of the Optobionics Artificial Silicon Retina from 2004 to 2007 and the Second Sight Argus 2 retinal implant from 2007 to the present day.

Dr Gislin Dagnelie thinks the research for the retina implant device makes him have good hopes for this technology for the future.

I also discussed with Dr Dagnelie what are the options for a treatment and eventually a cure for retinal diseases, especially retinitis pigmentosa.

I truly found this interview with Dr Gislin Dagnelie extremely interesting and educating.

Hope you will learn something from this wonderful interview.

Travel agency for the blind

I studied years ago Hotel and Travel Management as a technical career and the world of travel agencies and travel in general has always been interesting to me, so when I found out about Cheryl Echevarria, a blind woman who had a full service travel agency in NY (Echevarria Travel), I thought, wow interviewing this woman for my LVB Show could be very interesting and indeed I decided to interview her.
The thing I didn’t expect was that she had many more things to tell our listeners beyond her travel agency.

Cheryl lives in Brentwood, NY.
Her travel agency serves everyone in the US and Canada and whether they are sighted or not, but she specializes in helping the visually impaired, blind and disabled in general, with everything they need when traveling somewhere, whether their trip is inside the US or to any country abroad, whether is by plane or is a cruise or anything else…

Cheryl Echevarria is also the Treasurer of the Greater Long Island Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB), a very well known organization in the United States.

Cheryl is also the Current President of the Travel and Tourism Division of the NFB, a member of the Diabetic Action Network, as well as member of NAGDU, which is the National Association of Guide Dog Users.

During the interview Cheryl Echevarria talks about her successful travel agency, how it helps the visually impaired and blind and how she loves what she does.

Also she talks about her work with the NFB and much more…

And among the subjects we touched one that was really amazing was how Disney Parks are helping us visually impaired and blind in many ways.

You can listen to the full interview here:

I decided to do an interview for my LVB Show with Dave Uhlman, who is a visually impaired guy from Ohio, because the work he does with his team is awesome and is something that helps the visually impaired and blind but also helps educate the sighted about our experiences when we go to a public place like a Museum, a Zoo, a Park…

Dave Uhlman is the Host and producer of the H&T (Hear and There) AUDIO MAGAZINE.

Acupuncture treatment for eye diseases

When I saw Online an acupuncture Center in the US that would treat Retinitis Pigmentosa and other eye diseases I became curious about it and sent them a message.
Their response was very kind and they accepted my invitation to be a guest on my LVB Show to raise awareness about their treatment.

This was my first ever interview to someone who actually has a treatment for RP, Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Stargardts and more…
In the upcoming months I will be interviewing anyone who has a treatment option for the visually impaired and blind so my listeners and readers can make a decission of whether or not get one of those treatments and see how it goes for them.
It has to be said that I strongly recommend anyone before choosing any treatment option to consult with your eye doctor and your family and research very well each and every option to see what can be good for you.

Dr Lizbeth Ryan is the Founder of the Arkansas Acupuncture Center.
She has been practising Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture for several years.

You can listen to the full interview by clicking below:
http://lowvisionbureau.podomatic.com/entry/2012-03-10T14_48_14-08_00

In this interview we discussed accommodation pricing, treatment pricing and what can be improved with this treatment in some cases, understanding that every person is different and attitude and your mindset are important things to take into account when expecting a good result from any treatment.

If you choose this or any treatment with total faith and belief and with a very positive attitude thinking this WILL WORK, chances are will work for you even if it is a little.
A healthy Nutrition and exercising are also important when doing this treatment.

We also talked about how this treatment works and she gave some examples of patients that had a good improvement in their eyesight thanks to this treatment.

I have to point out that on their website they have video testimonials of various types of eye diseases explaining what was their experience with this treatment.

Finally I have to say Dr Lizbeth Ryan comes across as a genuine human being, she is interested in helping the visually impaired and blind community in her area and she knows there are things to do to improve how we, the visually impaired live.

Dr Lizbeth Ryan thinks education and exposure of our needs are important and the number of visually impaired and blind people in the United States is counted IN MILLIONS so I am sure all Americans reading this agree you all deserve the same opportunities in life.

You can visit their website at:
http://www.macupuncture.com
And there you can fill out the contact form to get detailed information on their treatments.

Hope you enjoy this interesting interview.
